The Baptism of Christ

Another in the series of icons for the Church of the Incarnation, Dallas Texas. The Baptism Icon is a beautiful example of how the art of iconography can speak of complex theology in one image. Christ stands in the living waters surrounded by fish. Above him the dove decends out of the ineffable mystery of God. Behind John, the axe is laid to the root of the tree while the angels minister, holding out robes of red, a symbol for the humanity fo Christ, blue symbolizing the divinity of Christ and linen reefering to the death and rebirth of baptism.
